FAU’s Fall 2008 Career Day Boasts Record Success
New programs help students prepare future career goals
BOCA RATON, FL (October 9, 2008) –Florida Atlantic University’s Fall 2008 Career Day & Technical Fair reached record numbers in recruitment and attendance for the first time in FAU history.
The fair, recently sponsored by FAU’s Career Development Center (CDC), a department of the Division of Student Affairs, along with FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science hosted 156 companies, a 29 percent increase compared to the Spring 2008 fair. Attendance grew 67 percent, with more than 1,100 people attending the fair compared to the Spring. The Career Day & Technical Fair hosted 45 companies presenting and recruiting for the first time. Some of those companies included CBS Sports, Microsoft, the DHS/TSA Federal Air Marshall Service, James A. Cummings, Inc., Revlex and USDA Farm Services Agency.
FAU’s CDC offers a number of services to help connect students to their industry of interest. One such way is via Interfase, an online job search database that allows FAU students and registered alumni to create a profile and upload their resume in order to find and apply for internships, co-ops, and part-time and full-time job postings. Employers may search the database for student resumes, post jobs, register for Career Days and schedule on-campus interviews. The CDC, in conjunction with FAU’s Office of Alumni Affairs, also offers the Professional Mentor Program, enabling students a way to research and connect with industry professionals in a variety of career fields to learn about potential career paths, employer expectations and company cultures.
Co-Op/internship programs through the CDC allow students to explore their intended majors, gain relevant career-related work experience, apply classroom theory to real world work environments and build their resumes. The Optimal Resume is the newest service available through the use of new online software that will help students design high-impact resumes based on their major and career goals. Students can create resumes in several formats and then store them on the Internet, making them accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
FAU’S Spring 2009 Career Day & Technical Fair will take place on February 5 in the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
