The FAU Student Alumni Association Hosts Welcome Luncheon for New Members and Parents

BOCA RATON, FL (September 11, 2008) – The Florida Atlantic University Student Alumni Association (SAA) recently hosted a welcome luncheon for its new members and their parents in the Founders’ Room at the Tom Oxley Athletic Center on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.   More than 100 students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends attended the event.

New members, mainly freshmen, each received the official SAA “BOX,” which included a T-shirt and other FAU spirit items.   Students and parents also received the FAU Owl Book, an 84-page guide to FAU spirit and tradition, sponsored by FAU’s Student Government.   The book highlights the university’s unique history and growth.

“This year is going to be the best ever,” said Briana Bragg, FAU Student Alumni Board (SAB) president.   “We had a goal of recruiting 100 new SAA members during orientation this summer, and we achieved that number and then some.”

The SAA, a subgroup of the SAB, is a registered club on the Boca Raton campus that works to create a nexus between current students and alumni.

“Briana and the Student Alumni Board are doing wonderful things,” said Gloria Branch ’91, chair of the FAU National Alumni Association Board of Directors.   “Their commitment to engaging FAU students is fundamental to strengthening this university.”

The welcome event also included the presentation of several special donations to student alumni programs, specifically the “prOWLers,” the athletics support subgroup of the SAA.   Donations were made by Nina and Robert “Crash” Taylor; Jim Slowiak; Dr. Eric Shaw, faculty representative to the FAU Board of Trustees; and Dr. Roy Levow, faculty representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

FAU President Frank T. Brogan ’81 and Head Football Coach Howard Schnellenberger spoke at the event, which also was attended by Craig Angelos, FAU athletic director, and Pat Breman, FAU’s assistant vice president of alumni relations.
