“Papermaking is a crucial element of the book arts, and our students are missing out on so much by not learning it here,’’ said John Cutrone, programs  coordinator of the Jaffe center.  Opening of the hand papermaking studio in the T-6 building, a former World War II barracks, is planned for 2011. Classes will be offered to FAU students and staff, as well as to the public. For the “Summertime Champagne Salon,” the center will be transformed into a glamorous, warm and cozy café. Guests will sip sparkling Chardonnay from Argentina and nibble on crostini with fire-roasted red peppers and basil, asparagus wrapped in smoked salmon, chicken and snow peas, brie en croute and chocolate dipped strawberries. After mingling, the party will move to the Jaffe Book Arts Gallery, the core of the Jaffe center, for a fun, insightful survey of artists’ books. Guests will take home a letterpress printed handmade book, courtesy of Convivio bookworks, a book arts studio in downtown Lake Worth.
