FAU School of Accounting Receives Gift
from Grant Thornton LLP

            BOCA RATON, FL
(July 10, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University’s School of Accounting, a department within the Barry Kaye College of Business, recently received an $8,500 gift from Grant Thornton LLP, an international public accounting firm with offices in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.  The gift will help support students in the School of Accounting by providing funding for scholarships and professional development.

“We are proud of the relationship between Grant Thornton and Florida Atlantic University,” said Doug Gawrych, South Florida managing partner of Grant Thornton LLP.  “FAU produces top quality accounting students, and we are pleased to support the School of Accounting and its faculty.”

This gift marks Grant Thornton’s third annual contribution to FAU’s College with previous gifts of $7,500 and $6,600 in 2008 and 2007, respectively. Grant Thornton also is a regular sponsor of the School of Accounting’s annual fundraising event, “Celebration.”

“The School of Accounting at FAU greatly values the support of Grant Thornton LLP,” said Somnath Bhattacharya, director of the School of Accounting at FAU. “Our relationship with Grant Thornton exemplifies the synergies that exist between the accounting profession and the School of Accounting and the manner in which our students gain immeasurably from the leveraging of such synergies.”

FAU’s School of Accounting has more than 1,600 students enrolled in its programs.  Its mission is to provide innovative accounting programs by employing diverse faculty to teach and develop our students’ technical, analytical, communication, interpersonal and lifelong learning skills.  The School of Accounting Scholars Program recruits highly-qualified and motivated students for a full-time, two-year, day program beginning in the senior year.  Graduates of the program receive both a bachelor of business administration and a master of accounting, and complete the requirements of the Florida Board of Accountancy.
