FAU Donors Honored at Reception on Boca Raton Campus
BOCA RATON, FL (May 7, 2008) – More than 150 friends of Florida Atlantic University attended an island paradise-themed recognition reception on the Boca Raton campus. Hosted by FAU President Frank T. Brogan ’81, the FAU Foundation Board of Directors and FAU’s Division of University Advancement, the event honored FAU donors, particularly those members of two of the University’s giving societies – the 1961 Society and the President’s Club. Also recognized were outgoing and new members of the FAU Foundation Board.
Coyote Jack’s, a popular restaurant on the Boca Raton campus, was transformed with tropical decorations to provide the perfect island-hide-away setting for the evening. Guests, dressed in tropical attire, were entertained with a steel drum calypso band and enjoyed an array of island-inspired hors d’oeuvres and drinks.
Randy Talbot, senior vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the FAU Foundation, welcomed the crowd and the new Foundation Board members Joseph Collard, Brian Cooke, Howard Cooper, Randy Justice, Judith Kaye, William Morris, Neale Poller , Bob Rubin, Charles Rutherford, Steven Sponder and Rhys Williams. Nancy Blosser, the new chair of the FAU Board of Trustees, was also introduced.
In his first public appearance as newly elected FAU Student Government Association President, Abe Cohen took his position on stage and thanked the donors for their generosity on behalf of the student body. In his role, Cohen will also be an ex-officio member of the Foundation Board and FAU Board of Trustees.
President Brogan concluded the program with a recap of the past year. “It has been a year of triumphs, of firsts and of wonderful national exposure,” he said. “As we welcome an exciting group of new board members, we say goodbye to our outgoing members who have been instrumental in our growth and so much a part of everything we do. There is no question that these individuals will remain an integral part of the FAU community.”
