FAU Names Jason Ball as Chief Information Officer, Associate Provost

BOCA RATON, FL (April 3, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University has named Jason Ball as its new chief information officer and associate provost. He is replacing Dr. Jeffrey Schilit, who is retiring from FAU after more than 30 years of service.

“Jason is incredibly innovative and a visionary.   We feel very fortunate that he is joining the university at a time when technology is blossoming and a vital part of the every day university experience,” said Dr. John Pritchett, university provost and chief academic officer at FAU. “Jason will certainly bring Florida Atlantic University to the next level of excellence in all aspects of information technology.”

Ball will begin at FAU after serving as the assistant vice president and director of information technology at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne.   He has more than 10 years of technology management experience in higher education.

“I am very excited to be joining the FAU team.  I have the privilege to build upon the excellence that Information Resource Management has already brought to FAU,” said Ball.  “I am looking forward to helping assure that FAU will successfully navigate the technology challenges facing universities today.”

In his new position, Ball will provide vision, leadership, strategic planning, and coordination of information technology, media, networking and telecommunications throughout the University’s multi-campus environment.   He will support existing operations within Office of Information Technology (OIT), develop strong managers and staff to meet strategic goals and improve customer service, participate fully with other campus leaders in advancing the University’s mission, and develop and manage long-term relationships with technology vendors and partners.   Ball also will work with the University’s chief financial officer to ensure seamless integration of administrative and emergency information systems.

Ball will join FAU on Tuesday, May 26, and report to the university provost.
