FAU Presents Annual Juried Student Exhibition
BOCA RATON (March 9, 2011) -- The University Galleries and the department of visual arts and art history at Florida Atlantic University will present the annual Juried Student Art Exhibition from Friday, March 25 through Saturday, April 9, in the Ritter Art Gallery on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. An opening reception and award ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Both the reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
This annual juried exhibition is open to all FAU students who may submit up to three works each. From the typical 80 to 100 students participating, the exhibition presents about one-third of the submitted works. The variety of artwork in this show by FAU students is just one thing that makes this exhibition unique. Students submit works from any discipline, such as painting, photography, ceramics, video art and sculpture.
This year’s juror is Beatriz Monteavaro, a Miami-based artist whose work was recently displayed in the University Galleries’ southXeast: Contemporary Southeastern Art exhibition. Monteavaro earned a BFA degree from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally. Some of those national galleries include the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles; and the Derek Eller Gallery, New York. Internationally, Monteavaro’s work has been shown at AR Contemporary Gallery in Milan, Italy and Morsbergerstrasse 54 in Basel, Switzerland, among others. Her work has been featured and reviewed in art publications, including Art Papers and ArtNews. Monteavaro also recently received the 2011 South Florida Cultural Consortium Visual Artist Fellowship. In addition to judging the submitted works, Monteavaro will give a public lecture on Wednesday, March 16 at noon in the Visual Arts building on the Boca Raton campus, room 105.
The Ritter Art Gallery is centrally located within the campus, on the second floor of the breezeway, immediately east of the Wimberly Library. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, from 1 – 4 p.m., and Saturday from 1 – 5 p.m. The University Galleries are closed Sunday and Monday.
This exhibition is made possible in part by the FAU Student Government through, student activity fees. For further information, call 561-297-2966.
