FAU National Alumni Association Hosts Ninth Annual Sweethearts Dinner

BOCA RATON, FL (March 2, 2011) – The Florida Atlantic University National Alumni Association (FAUNAA) recently hosted its ninth annual Sweethearts Dinner. The special evening honors couples who met while attending FAU. More than 30 alumni couples attended the dinner at the Marleen and Harold Forkas Alumni Center at FAU’s Boca Raton campus.

Pat Breman, assistant vice president of alumni relations, welcomed all the “sweethearts” on behalf of the association. FAUNAA Board Member Ben Dickinson ’04, served as master of ceremonies for the evening’s festivities, which included a humorous rendition of “The Newlywed Game.”

First-year Sweethearts Dinner attendees Lawrence Donahue ’74 and Carol Donahue ’74 were married while attending FAU. After graduation, they returned home to New York and taught high school for 36 years. “As recently-retired snowbirds, we were so excited to finally be able to attend this special event,” said Carol. “We had a wonderful time meeting other couples and reflecting on our years at FAU.”

“It’s been a long time since we visited FAU, but we were still greeted as if we were family,” said Lawrence. “We felt the same way many years ago when we decided to attend FAU.”

Guests represented every decade of FAU’s 50-year history and included alumni from the University’s first graduating class of 1965. The most recent graduate was in the class of 2010.
