FAU’s Pine Jog Environmental Education Center to Host Green Gala as part of 50th Anniversary Celebration

 

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (March 8, 2010) Florida Atlantic University’s Pine Jog Environmental Education Center will present its annual fundraiser, the “Green Gala,” on Saturday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m. This year’s “Get Ready to Go Retro” theme highlights Pine Jog’s 50th anniversary celebration. The gala will be held on the 150-acre Pine Jog campus at the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold-certified facility at 6301 Summit Boulevard, West Palm Beach.
            Chair of Pine Jog’s Board of Directors William Graham is this year’s honorary host. Festivities will include dinnerand dancing with a live band under the stars, as well as a silent and live auction featuring auctioneer Bob Nichols. Pine Jog also will announce its inaugural Environmental Leadership Awards. Recipients include:  

  • Green Organization of the Year – Audubon Society of Florida


  • Green Business/Nonprofit of the Year – Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties


  • Green Educator of the Year – Principal Fred Barch, Pine Jog Elementary


  • Green Visionary of the Year – Palm Beach County Commissioner Jeff Koons


  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Frances Hufty, Garden Club of Palm Beach


             Founded in 1960 by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred G. Kay, Pine Jog is one of the oldest environmental education centers in the U.S.  Pine Jog serves more than 40,000 individuals annually, 60 percent of those individuals are from culturally diverse and underserved populations. Proceeds from this event help to underwrite Pine Jog’s children’s programs.
            Individual ticket prices are $125, and there are sponsorship opportunities available. The dress for the evening is business/cocktail, and 1960s attire is encouraged.
