FAU and Broward College Host the Youth College Experience
FORT LAUDERDALE , FL (March 26, 2009) - The Youth College Experience, presented by Florida Atlantic University and Broward College, is not your average college tour. The schools have partnered to educate potential students and parents on the “2+2” educational model, a popular, more accessible approach to a four-year degree for thousands of Broward students.
High school students and children ages 6 to 18 are invited to visit FAU and BC’s Davie campus on Tuesday, April 7 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. to better understand what it means to attend college. Highlights include visiting BC’s planetarium, sitting in on FAU classes, a reverse panel discussion led by FAU and BC student leaders, and a session exploring the possibilities of a career path focused on “green jobs.” There also will be a keynote address from Shanice Wilson, Miss West Broward Teen USA. At the end of the day, parents will join their students for a reception, followed by a parents-only session showcasing the opportunities available to provide higher education for their children.
The affordable “2+2” educational model, piloted in Broward County by FAU and BC more than 20 years ago, is now a standard throughout the nation in providing greater access to higher education for students.
The event, sponsored in part with funding from State Farm Insurance, is free and open to interested students and parents, but space is limited and RSVPs are required. For more information about the Youth College Experience, contact Maggie Gunther at 954-762-5275 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
