The Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts at Florida Atlantic University on the Boca Raton campus is hosting “Dos-à-Dos: Two Views,” through Tuesday, April 28, at the Wimberly Library. The term “Dos-à-Dos” refers to two books that are bound together to form a whole. In much the same way, the Jaffe center has brought two distinct views together for an exhibition that is striking, amusing and engaging. The exhibition features video works, installations and artists books by Florida artists Marie Marcano and Hanne Niederhausen. Marcano investigates the written word as a visual phenomenon, using invented alphabets and calligraphic shapes. Niederhausen uses her background in traditional printmaking as a springboard for exploration into the book form, working extensively in the medium of altered books as sculptural objects, while extending into the realm of handmade books.
