Tribute Wall Unveiled at FAU’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center to Honor Benefactors

BOCA RATON, FL (March 6, 2008) – More than seventy-five supporters of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center at Florida Atlantic University gathered on Tuesday, February 24 to celebrate the unveiling of a new donor tribute wall.   Made of art glass and stone, and prominently displayed in the Center’s breezeway, the wall was designed to honor families, organizations and foundations whose gifts helped construct the Memory and Wellness Center and enable ongoing services.   The Caring Hearts Auxiliary of the Memory and Wellness Center has generously underwritten the tribute wall.

“The tribute wall is a beautiful daily reminder of the gifts the Memory and Wellness Center has received since opening our doors eight years ago,” said Denise Sparks, director of the Center. “Following the lead of Louis and Anne Greene, our community’s generosity enables the Center to continue state-of-the-art services to families living with memory disorders.”

The Memory and Wellness Center, located on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, is a state-designated memory disorder clinic under the State of Florida’s Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative.   It is part of FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and averages 12,000 visits per year.

In November 2001, the Center opened with a start-up grant from the National Institute of Health, Administration on Aging and moved into its new building in December 2004. Funding for the facility came from a $l.5 million gift from Louis and Anne Green, which was matched by the State of Florida.

The Center offers a wide range of services and programs to individuals with mild to moderate memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Visits start with a comprehensive memory evaluation that often helps diagnose a memory disorder and begin a treatment plan with a patient’s physicians. In addition, the Center conducts clinical research on Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, and provides practicum experiences for students of nursing, medicine, social work, exercise science, health administration and others.

The adult day center provides an active environment for those who are experiencing memory loss to engage in cognitive, social and physical stimulation.   Caregiver support programs have a positive impact on life at home.   Recent program additions, such as the BrainsGain Workshop, focus on memory loss prevention.
