FAU Music Students Use Music and Art to Send Message of Compassion at Dear Haiti Concert
Event will include concert and art auction

BOCA RATON, FL (February 18, 2010) – Hoot/Wisdom Recordings, Florida Atlantic University’s student-operated record label, and the peace studies program in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters invites the public to attend a night of art and music aimed at raising continued support for the Haitian earthquake relief effort. “Dear Haiti: Notes of Peace and Compassion” will showcase a mixture of FAU musicians and artists. The event, which will take place on Sunday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theater on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, is free with all proceeds and donations going to Food for The Poor.

Artwork, donated by select FAU artists, will be on display and sold in a silent auction. Music groups from FAU will present their “letters of compassion” in the form of original music presentations. Hoot/Wisdom recording artists Danny B. and Marcus Banks will headline the event. Other acts will include a jazz-fusion combo led by FAU graduate student Kiki Sanchez and original orchestral works of sophomore music student Alton Terry. There will be donation boxes as well as letter-writing stations for attendees who would like to send their own messages. Sandra Devoe, project coordinator for Food for the Poor, will be a special guest for the event. Food for the Poor is the largest international relief and development organization in the United States.
