FAU to Celebrate National Engineer’s Week

            BOCA RATON, FL (February 15, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science will celebrate National Engineer’s Week beginning today at its Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.  This year’s celebration will help cultivate, honor and celebrate the contributions that engineers make to society, with sustainability as a key focus.  

The following events will take place:


Tour the new College of Engineering and Computer Science building
Tuesday, February 16, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.


Tour the new “green” College of Engineering and Computer Science building, which is still under construction.  Those wishing to attend must register with Trudy Jeffries at jeffries@fau.edu.

Brain Bowl

Tuesday, February 16, from 3 to 4 p.m.
Lobby of Computer Science and Engineering building

Faculty and students from departments in FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science will compete against each other in various subject areas regarding engineering.

Entrepreneurship Speaker Series

Tuesday, February 16, from 6:45 to 9 p.m.
General Classroom North building, room 101  

Greg Hanlon, vice president of FPL Energy Services, will give a lecture focusing on sustainability in the energy arena and FPL’s focus on alternative energy initiatives such as solar and wind.

Student Union, Live Oak Pavilion

FAU students will have the opportunity to network with industry leaders and professional engineers as they discuss the newest developments in sustainability and “green” engineering.

E-Week the Green Way

Thursday, February 18, 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Student Union, Live Oak Pavilion

A host of local engineering companies will promote “green initiatives” through demonstrations, displays and giveaways. The FAU student engineering club, as well as the Mission Green Student Association, will showcase their on-campus initiatives with games, activities and robotics demonstrations. Some of our corporate partners sponsoring this event include FPL and CH2MHill.

NASA Astronaut and FAU Alumnus Presentation

Friday, February 19, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

University Theatre

Dr. Steve Swanson will make a presentation on his recent NASA shuttle mission and present Dean Karl Stevens with the College of Engineering & Computer Science flag that he took in to space on his most recent mission.
