FAU to Host 2010 Business Plan
Team Registrations due by February 19
BOCA RATON, FL (February 5, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University’s Adams Center for Entrepreneurship and the College of Business will host the 2010 FAU Business Plan Competition, in which FAU students, alumni and members of the business community are invited to compete for a share of more than $65,000 in cash and prizes. Teams must include one FAU student, and registrations are due by Friday, February 19. Final business plans must be submitted by Sunday, March 28 at 5p.m.
The 2010 FAU Business Plan Competition provides an opportunity for participants to compete and test their business ideas. Teams may submit an innovative business plan in one of two categories: the pre-revenue track and the revenue track. The pre-revenue track is designated for ventures that are conceptual and have no earned revenue, while the revenue track is open to ventures that have earned between $1 and $50,000 in revenue.
The final round event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 16, will host eight teams in each of the two tracks of the competition. To compete, participants first must complete the online Intent to Compete form and then build their team. FAU students, alumni and business community members may search for team members using the center’s innovative new matching software at www.faubpc.com. This new software will partner members of the community with an FAU student with the same area of interest.
A screening committee made up of FAU faculty and South Florida business leaders will narrow business plan submissions to a total of 16 business plans to compete in the final-round event. Teams participating in the competition will have the opportunity to meet and network with experienced venture capital principals, early-stage angel investors, successful entrepreneurs and senior business leaders who will serve as judges for the competition.
Competition highlights include:
- Real-world opportunities to learn what is required to successfully launch a new business venture
- A chance to receive mentoring and feedback from investors and experienced entrepreneurs
- Prizes valued at more than $65,000
Community partnerships enable the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship to continue its support for entrepreneurial programs and early stage companies. Sponsors for the 2010 competition include The Research Parks at FAU, operated by the Florida Atlantic Research and Development Authority; Gunster, Yoakley, & Stewart, P.A.; Northwestern Mutual Financial Network – The Striano Group; Intelligent Office; Bert Williams, executive marketing consultant; e-Council Inc.com and New Management Solutions, Inc.; Nvestcom; The Rector Group; Judith Teller Kaye; Daszkal Bolton LLP; Merit Mile; Ribotksy, Levine & Company CPAs; Crossbow Ventures; Southpoint Energy; StudentHousingOffCampus.com; New World Angels; and the Paragon Foundation of Palm Beach County.
