FAU Presents the Duelling Divas
BOCA RATON (February 2, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University’s department of music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present a concert with the “Duelling Divas” on Saturday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre on the Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission tickets are $15, and FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni may obtain free admission with ID. Tickets may be purchased by calling 800-564-9539, by visiting www.fauevents.com, or at the door one hour prior to the event.
Known for their unique look at the world of opera, Wendy Reynolds and Birgit Fioravante will present, as they put it, a “respectfully irreverent musical revue on the seriously funny spectacle of opera.” The show has plenty of standard operatic fare, but the addition of feathers, sequins and pounds of jewelry make for an evening of laughs, fun and first-rate entertainment.
Reynolds and Fioravante, both classically-trained opera singers, bring the behind-the-scenes world of opera to center stage. “Several years ago we came up with the idea of doing something a little different than the usual vocal concert of opera highlights and show tunes,” said Reynolds. “So we added characters, storyline and comedy to create the operatic revue ‘Duelling Divas.’”
The divas are joined by pianist Heather Coltman. Coltman is the chair of the department of music at FAU.
