Hayes explores black identity in his work through his invented character the Gingerblack Man, which acts as the consciousness of African-Americans. The work speaks on how society shapes identity on the basis of assumptions and accusations. While incorporating pop culture, history, technology and cookie-cutter mentality, the art confronts issues of imagery, stereotypes and the social political realities of chasing the American dream.
The John D. MacArthur Campus Library’s hours are Sundays from 12:30 to 9 p.m.; Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
