Fall 2014 Orientation will be August 12 - August 18, 2014. Students must register for orientation via MyFAU, where further information will be available.
Fall 2014 Orientation
August 12 - August 18 (Attendance is Mandatory)
The Honors College Student Orientation prepares you for a successful start to your academic career at Florida Atlantic University. By attending the Honors College Orientation program, you will learn about unique requirements and services that are available as we welcome you to the HC family. It is a time to meet new students as well as learn from current students, faculty and administrators. Find out what the HC community life is all about and what you need to succeed! Orientation is your opportunity to develop lasting relationships, acclimate to the HC campus, and embark on experiences that become lifelong memories.
The mandatory orientation program will introduce you to the HC community, faculty staff, and students. Social and informative activities are scheduled to help ease your transition into college life. There are fees for both the student and their parents/guests.
Move-in for new students will take place between 8 a.m. and noon on Tuesday of orientation week, with a Welcome Session beginning at 1pm. New off-campus students should arrive on campus by 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Special orientation sessions for parents will be held following the Welcome Session.
Students register for Orientation online; instructions are available at: http://www.fau.edu/orientation/components/HowDoISignup.php. If you have further questions about registering for orientation, you may phone 561-297-2733 or email email@example.com.
A checklist of all of the things incoming students need to do is available online.
Information for Parents/family:
A number of activities are designed for parents on Tuesday August 12. Following move-in from 8 am to noon there will be a welcome ceremony at 1pm, and several informative sessions specially designed for parents on topics including academics, safety, health and counseling, financial aid, and housing, and many opportunities to ask questions from staff and administrators. Orientation concludes for parents with a wrap up prior to dinner on Tuesday.
Early Registration for Fall 2014As part of orientation you will have an advising session with your assigned faculty advisor at which time you will discuss your fall course schedule, transfer work (AP, IB, CLEP, dual enrollment) and any academic questions you may have. After this appointment you will be able to register for classes.
New students entering in Fall 2014 have the option of preliminarily registering during the summer for their fall schedule prior to attending the mandatory orientation in August. Please note that it is NOT NECESSARY to enroll prior to the August orientation. We go out of our way to make sure that every Honors College student gets into the courses they need to graduate on time. Keep in mind that even if you choose this option, orientation and the one-on-one advising session with your faculty advisor that is part of it are still mandatory. During this advising session in August, your faculty advisor will review your course selection and ensure it best fits your needs. If you do not attend orientation and the advising session you may be administratively dropped from your early registration courses.
If you would like to get a head start on the registration process you may contact the Director of Academic Support Services at firstname.lastname@example.org. Prior to doing so, make sure you read through the information and links below and at the 'Registration Instructions' tab, and include in the email your Z number and your intended concentration if you already know it, or indicate that you are undecided. Once we have approved your schedule submitted on the form we provide, you will be given the permission to register for your fall courses. In order to do so, you must not have any registration holds other than Orientation holds (OR/OT) which we will release once your schedule is approved, so make sure to log on to MyFAU and check for holds (here is a list of common registration holds).

First, check for holds (topics 1, 2). Review Honors College course requirements and the course offerings for the new semester. Then search for courses using either Banner, or the list of Honors College course offerings (Topic 3), making sure the courses don't conflict with each other, and noting the 5-digit CRN number of each course you want to take. After getting your course selection approved by your faculty advisor (during orientation) or by David Flanigan (for students who are preliminarily registering during the summer), follow the instructions for 'Registering for courses' (topic 4).
