Once we’re up there, we’ll take advantage of the beautiful area to go rafting on the Nantahala and Tuckasegee Rivers in inflatable duckies. In addition to rafting, we will use our down time to explore Turtleback Falls, a great place for swimming and sliding off the natural rocks. We will drive back to FAU on Sunday, arriving back late at night just in time to celebrate Labor Day back at home. So much fun in so little time, they said it couldn’t be done. Trip Difficulty: Hard

As a college student, take learning a new skill into your own hands. Join this beginner level workshop style trip with little to no experience in the ways of surfing. South Florida might not get the highest waves, but Outdoor Adventure’s soft eight foot Wavestorm surfboards will have you riding. They are built to handle first time mistakes beginners make as they learn the skills needed in the shore break. Surfing has a long history as an active outdoor water sport and you could learn the basics in techniques, dangers, protective gear, and safety all in a few hours. We’ll also spend time at the beach relaxing. Being a strong swimmer will make surfing that much more enjoyable. Make it one more reason to go to the beach more often.Trip Difficulty: Easy

The rest of the trip will be spent taking short day hikes through the mountains and exploring the area. The Cypress Canopy trip covers the upper section of the Loxahatchee River. Your adventure starts at the launch near Loxahatchee Battlefield Memorial Park. What starts as a fairly open river soon becomes a narrower river under the cover of tall Cypress tree canopies. In the beginning of the trip, you will be going with the current, making for a relaxing and scenic beginning, where you will just have to focus on steering.  In fact, this river is so pristine it is one of only two National Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida. After lunch we will continue down the river and eventually things won’t be as easy as we will now be going against the current. If you enjoy being in pristine nature and canoeing, this is one trip you don't want to miss!  Trip Difficulty: Medium

TRIP DIFFICULTY RATINGS

Whether you want to learn a new activity, better your skills, or just explore a new area, our trips are designed to be appropriate for a wide variety of skill levels.  However, the difficulty of the trips varies.  The following rating system is designed to help you better understand the level of physical exertion for each trip.  The weather and your level of fitness can all affect the difficulty of trips, but this is the rating system that we use:

Easy
Not much physical exertion is needed. The activities for these trips are relaxing and not very strenuous.  These trips are the least likely to have increased difficulty as a result of fluctuating environmental conditions.
Moderate
You’ll know that you’re getting exercise on these trips, but the activities are not as strenuous or as long as those in challenging trips.
Challenging
These trips are still beginner friendly, but be prepared for a work out! The trips involve activities where you will be exerting yourself for several hours a day in conditions that can greatly affect the difficulty.  But remember, the greater the challenge, the greater the reward!

A note about canoeing and kayaking:

Anyone who has not taken the FAU swim test with the Rec Center Lifeguards will be required to wear a PFD. You can take the swim test anytime during the pool hours. You just need to approach the lifeguards and let them know that you are there to take the swim test. While on the trip, the leader may ask you to put on a PFD in certain situations regardless of whether or not you have completed a swim test.

CANCELLATIONS

A full refund will be issued if the cancellation is made within 7 days of the trip’s registration start date.  This means if the registration opens April 21st, you will have until April 28th to cancel.

Cancellations made 7+ days after the trip registration opens will not receive a refund for any reason.

If a trip is cancelled by Outdoor Adventures due to weather or any other reason, a full refund will be issued.
