Free Workshops for Athletes
Swim Faster and Safer! (10:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)
Presenter: Niki Alvarez is the head women's swimming and head women's cross country coach at Lynn University. Niki is a USA Triathlon Level 1 certified coach and a USA Track and Field Level III certified coach. She swam four years Division 1 in college and has been coaching swimming at the collegiate level for 12 years. Niki is a four time USAT All American and three time 70.3 World Championship qualifier.
This session will include tips and strategies to improve technique, endurance and speed in the open water.
Bike Safety (12:00 – 5:00 p.m.)
Bike America will provide FREE bike check-ups to promote a safe biking experience for all participants. Take advantage of this valuable service. Bike America will also be available for purchase of helmets, shoes, clothing, bicycles and many other items at Special Event discount prices.
Bike America has a limited number of bicycles for rental for the race. Contact the shop early to reserve a rental (561-391-0800).
All That You Need to Know for Your First Race (12:15 to 1:30 p.m.)
Presenter: Racheal Wood, Level II USAT Certified Coach, Master’s Degree, Exercise Science and Health Promotion, 2002 Ironman Master World Champion and numerous national and world top finishers.
If you are new to the sport or this is your first race, this presentation is designed for you. Have all your questions answered and learn tips that will make a big difference for you on race day.
Triathlon 101 – A Journey from Couch Potato to Ironman (1:45 to 3:00 p.m.)Presenter: Brian Lynott is a 6 time Ironman competitor, leading South Florida triathlete, marathon runner, banker, husband and proud father of two.
Everyone has a personal journey to the race starting line. Whether you are an experienced triathlete or a first timer, this workshop will help you examine your goals and suggest ways to improve your racing experiences. We will explore such topics as: motivation, specific goals, personal strengths and weaknesses, mental toughness, common mistakes, resources and how to balance work/school/family/ and training.
Topic: Tricks and Secrets for Improving Performance (3:15 to 4:30 p.m.)
Presenter: Errol Kalayci, LifeSport Coach, USAT Level 1 Triathlon Coach, businessman, lawyer, married father of three young girls and has been involved in competitive sports his entire life. He has a thorough understanding of life's demands on goal oriented age group triathletes, and possesses the experience and knowledge of how to balance these demands with achieving sport goals. Errol has been involved in endurance sports as a competitive triathlete for over 10 years. During this time, Errol served as Vice President and President of Gold Coast Triathletes, obtained his USAT Coaching certification, and been mentored by National and Olympic coach Lance Watson for over 8 years. Living in South Florida, he currently works with runners and triathletes to help them achieve their goals.
Coach Errol will share the story of one of his athletes who only 3 years was suffering from Crohn’s disease, could not run 400 yards and was scared of the water. That athlete just finished his first Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) with a smile on his face and is racing his second this year! This presentation will show you how to step up your performance, overcome fear and dare you to challenge yourself and achieve your dreams. Includes a sample week of training, a few example workouts, progressive overload theory, and balancing sport and life.
