FAU United Way

Join FAU’s 2014 United Way Kick-off Event

Dear Colleagues:

I was alarmed recently to learn that more than half the children attending public schools in Palm Beach County qualify for free or reduced-price school lunches. In Broward County, their number exceeds 62 percent. This provides dramatic evidence of the degree to which hunger is a very real issue for families in FAU’s service area. The United Way is there for these families, helping them in many ways, and we in the FAU community are proud to support United Way’s good work.

The University’s 2014 United Way campaign will kick off with coffee and continental breakfast in the FAU Club at Engineering East from 8 to 10 a.m. this Friday, Nov. 7. There will be raffle prizes, and United Way speakers will be on hand to discuss the many human services the organization provides.

I hope you’ll be able to come to the kick-off event. RSVPs are not necessary. For more information, please contact Krisa Kolbe at kkolbe@fau.edu or 7-4693. To make a donation in any amount, either in a lump sum or by payroll deduction, please go to http://www.fau.edu/unitedway/

As we enter the holiday season and reflect on our good fortune, please consider doing whatever you can to help those in need in our community. Thank you in advance for showing how much FAU cares through your support of the United Way.

A Little Goes A Long Way

Especially during tough economic times, every dollar given to United Way can go a long way to changing someone's life. For this year's campaign, we are challenging every employee to give what they can. Even $1, $3 or $5 a week can make a real difference. Here's how:

  • $1 per week buys a month's supply of milk for a family of four living in a shelter
  • $3 per week provides a year's worth of school supplies for one student
  • $5 per week pays for eight weeks of summer camp for one deserving child
  • $10 per week ensures a victim of domestic violence is protected from harm
  • $20 per week provides a month of caregiver respite through the Alzheimer's day care program

Designate Your Gift

If you are interested in designating your gift to a certain agency or a particular county United Way operation, simply indicate that in the appropriate area of your electronic or paper pledge form.
