Dr. Kristin Smyth completed her PhD in Social Work from the University of South Florida and her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Smyth has more than 15 years of experience in social work practice. She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Florida and North Carolina, and is a qualified supervisor for social work licensure in both states as well.

Dr. Smyth's research, practice, and teaching interests center around client well-being and are grounded in a Rogerian, person-centered orientation. Her research has focused on psychosocial functioning, identity development, stigma and self-stigma, and interpersonal support among individuals with severe mental illness. Dr. Smyth's practice experience includes clinical and direct practice providing individual, family, and group therapy in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practices. Clients have included children, adolescents, and adults with wide range of needs that includes stressors related to normative developmental life changes as well as severe mental illness. Dr. Smyth has previously served as Assistant Professor at Western Carolina University and Adjunct Faculty at the University of South Florida.
