Suicide Prevention Options

• If there is an immediate danger of suicide, contact the FAU Police Department at 561-297-3500 or your nearest police station by dialing 911
• Go to the nearest hospital emergency room
• Contact the Counseling Center at 561-297-3540 Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
• Call the 24 hour Crisis Hotline at 211 or 561-383-1111
• Call the Suicide Hotline at 211 or 800-784-2433
• The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24 hour, toll-free suicide prevention service available to anyone in suicidal crisis.  If you need help, please dial 1-800-273-TALK (8255).  You will be routed to the closest possible crisis center in your area.

Violence Prevention Options

• If there is an immediate danger of violence or if violence has occurred, contact the FAU Police Department, 561-297-3500 or your nearest Police Station by dialing 911.
• Go to the nearest hospital emergency room
• If you are concerned about a student’s potential for violence, contact the Counseling Center at 561-297-3540, the Dean of Students at 561-297-3542 or your residence hall staff.
• If you have concerns about a student’s behavior or potential for violence, contact the Counseling Center at 561-297-3540.

Urgent Emotional or Psychological Crises

Counseling and Psychological Services professionals are available to provide immediate assessment and intervention for students faced with a crisis or concern that feels too overwhelming to wait for a regularly scheduled appointment.

Victim Services

FAU Victim Services is intended to assist students, staff and faculty with the traumatizing consequences of being a victim of crime even if the crime occurred off campus. For assistance call 561-297-0500.

A victim advocate can:

• Provide crisis intervention
• Give you information about victim’s rights according to Florida Statutes
• Help you evaluate your options
• Document your victimization for school or employers
• Help you create a Safety Plan
• Give you information and assistance about reporting crimes both within and outside the University proper
• Accompany you to  appointments at police stations, the state attorney's office, court rooms, Dean of Students, judicial hearings and other places
• Provide you with referrals to social services such as counseling, legal and medical
• Coordinate assistance and services to your individual needs
• Explain how the judicial process works
• Provide you with information about the progress of your individual case
• Explain and help you apply for victim compensation as designated by Florida Statute
• Act as your liaison to the criminal justice community
