Welcome to the website of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Florida Atlantic University!

We initiated 136 students on April 19th 2008. Our keynote speaker was Dr. Barry Rosson, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. Ms. Rhonda Graves, MA student in Anthropology and one of our previous yearís scholarship recipients, also spoke at the initiation.

Ximena Tavares, from the College of Science, was the recipient of our chapterís Honors Convocation award of $2,500.

Our Endowed Scholarship account has met our initial funding goal of $10,000. The purpose of this fund is to support our annual $10,000 in scholarship awards to outstanding FAU students. I would like to encourage you to support our Endowed Scholarship Fund (Foundation Account: SAF120) when you make your yearly donation to FAU.

The Chapter has continued to be an active participant in FAUís Freshman Reading Program and Freshman Convocation. Phi Kappa Phi provided five $100 awards to first-year students who demonstrated academic excellence by participating in online discussions of Nickel and Dimed: On Not Getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich, completing the Summer Reading Program, and submitting a short reflective essay on their academic aspirations at FAU.

Our next initiation ceremony will be on Saturday April 18, 2009, 2 - 4 pm in the Live Oak Pavilion. The invitations will go out in early March. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is a high honor. If you receive an invitation, you have a minimum 3.5 GPA. If a Junior, you are in the top 7.5% of your college; if a Senior or a graduate student, you are in the top 10% of your college.

Please consider joining Phi Kappa Phi, the nationís oldest and most selective honor society recognizing and rewarding scholastic achievement in all academic disciplines. As a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, you will be in the company of many distinguished members. You will also be eligible for more than $700,000 in national awards granted yearly for graduate fellowships, study abroad, and other competitive awards. The application deadline for Scholarship Awards for full-time graduate study at FAU is April 8, 2009. Please consult our webpage for further information.

As the President of Chapter 128, I am delighted to welcome you to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Florida Atlantic University

Sincerely yours,

Mary Ann Gosser Esquilian
