MPA Internship Program Right on Target
FAU’s MPA Internship Program is right on target by offering diversified, public-sector management work experiences designed to augment classroom learning with meaningful, subject-matter applications. Through their internship experiences, students are able to clarify their professional goals and establish invaluable, career-relevant, network contacts. For instance, while still in school, Izadora Isadore-Thomas was just awarded a well-paid, competitive internship with Broward County, enabling her to work closely with the County Administrator during this last year of her MPA program. Fransnor Alexis, on the other hand, recently completed his internship at the City of Sunrise, exposing him to real-life public service affairs and allowing him to work with many key city executives. This internship lead to his employment after graduation and Fransnor is now the Special Project Coordinator for the City Manager and works closely with the Economic Development Director.
Laura Karpaviciute is another FAU MPA success story. She was hired as a part-time Management Intern by the City of Tamarac in November 2012. This paid position was previously offered following a national search but, impressed with Laura’s credentials and performance, the city will now offer future positions exclusively to FAU MPA students. Laura was subsequently offered a one-year, full-time internship, which started upon her graduation from FAU in May 2013. As part of her role, this recent program graduate is in charge of implementing one of Tamarac’s FY 13/14 Strategic Plan’s action items and is coordinating the update of the Tamarac’s Customer Response Tracking System User Manual, as well as its user training, annual FBC data collection, and the City’s biennial resident, employee, and business surveys. Congratulations Izadora, Fransnor and Laura!
