Dear FAU Student Organizations:
The Council of Student Organizations and Student Involvement and Leadership are proud to announce the 2012-2013 Student Organization Awards & Recognition (S.O.A.R) Banquet. The S.O.A.R. Banquet will honor Florida Atlantic University’s finest and brightest student leaders and student organizations. The student leaders and student organizations at FAU have contributed tremendously to the quality of student life and education on campus throughout the 2012-2013 academic year and this celebration is our way to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication.We are also excited to announce the S.O.A.R Banquet will include several performances to showcase the multitude of talent in its student organization community.The presentation of awards will be held in the Lifelong Learning Center Auditorium beginning promptly at 6:30pm Friday, April 19, 2013, followed by a dinner reception in the Grand Palm Room at 8:00 pm. Mark your calendar and plan to join us. Semi-formal attire is recommended. Space is limited; please RSVP by Friday April 5, 2013 to Student Involvement and Leadership at studentorgs@fau.edu. Please include the name of your student organization and the amount of members planning to attend.
Below you will find nomination links for the S.O.A.R. awards. We encourage you to read through the descriptions of the awards as well as the respective application forms. Consider each category and nominate individuals or groups whom you consider to embody the spirit of the award. Individuals and groups may nominate themselves. Your group may nominate more than one individual or organization for any of the awards. Please submit your nominations by Friday, March 22, 2012 by 5:00 pm. Winners of the awards will be presented at the S.O.A.R Banquet on April 19th.

Instructions for Submitting Nominations:
- Any FAU faculty, staff, or student may nominate.
- Please complete the appropriate form for the category in which you are
submitting the nomination (you may submit nomination forms for as many different categories as you like but please do not submit more than one form per individual category).
- Provide the nominator’s and nominee’s full name and e-mail address on each nomination.
- Make sure that the contact information is accurate and complete.
- Nominations must provide evidence to substantiate the significant contribution that thestudent leader or organization has made towards advancing diversity, equity, andpluralism at FAU or in the broader community.
- To be eligible, a nominee must be a current student, employee at FAU or a current registered student organization. A student must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the time of their nomination.
- All nominations must be submitted by Friday March 22, 2013.

UNIVERSITY WIDE AWARDS
New Student Organization of the Year
This award is designed to recognize and acknowledge the contributions made to the Florida Atlantic University community by a student organization officially recognized by FAU for the first time within the 2012-2013 academic year. All newly recognized student organizations formed between September 1, 2012 and March 1, 2013 are eligible to be nominated for this award. This award will be awarded within two categories, small (less than 20 active members) and large (20+ active members).

Student Organization of the Year
This award is designed to recognize and acknowledge a student organization that contributes and excels in three areas of organizational management. The areas include: outstanding contribution to membership; outstanding work in the area of developing their members as leaders and the internal workings of their group; outstanding contribution to campus; having a significant impact on campus through programs and/or services, and outstanding contribution to community; having a significant impact within the community. This award will be awarded within two categories, small (less than 20 active members) and large (20+ active members).

Advisor of the Year
This award is designed to recognize an advisor that best encourages and supports a student organization and its members. This person must have a strong working relationship with the organization’s members and be an active participant in the organization’s activities. In addition, the advisor must be approachable and accessible to the organization and attentive to the needs and issues of the organization and its members.

Student Organization Outstanding Service Award
This award is designed to recognize and acknowledge a student organization whose involvement in service activities and projects has benefited Florida Atlantic University, the surrounding community, and humanity. This award honors a student organization that has significantly encouraged enthusiasm and college participation in service activities, and made outstanding contributions to the surrounding community. This award will be awarded within two categories, small (less than 20 active members) and large (20+ active members).

Student Organization Spirit Award
This award is designed to recognize and acknowledge the special efforts of a particular student organization that has gone above and beyond their mission by creating enthusiasm and pride for the organization and the Florida Atlantic University community as well as continually participated in creating university traditions. This award will be awarded within two categories, small (less than 20 active members) and large (20+ active members).

Student Organization Hall of Fame Award
This award is designed to recognize graduating student leaders who have significantly impacted student organizations during their multiple years at FAU. This award will recognize those students who begin as active members in organizations and directly impacted the growth and success of those organizations over the course of 3+ years. The Hall of Fame award is designed to celebrate student leaders who have worked consistently and passionately for at least one student organization over time.

Executive of the Year
This award is designed to recognize an officer (other than the President) of an organization who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills and goes above and beyond in helping to achieve club objectives and excels in their duties as an executive board member of the organization.

Member of the Year
This award is designed to recognize a student organization member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in his/her student organization. This person does not necessarily hold a position within the organization, but demonstrates continued commitment and leadership through action.

Student Leader of the Year
This award is designed to recognize student leaders who make meaningful contributions to multiple organizations and areas of campus life. Student leaders of the year continually demonstrate effective leadership to the FAU community, as well as have strong focus on developing leaders around them.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC AWARDS
President of the Year
This award is designed to recognize a student organization President that has gone above and beyond the call of duty for their student organization. This person has rallied the group around a common mission and for a significant cause to make a noteworthy impact on campus this year. In addition, this President must have demonstrated strong leadership within his/her position and the FAU community. This award will be awarded for each campus (Jupiter, Broward, and Boca Raton).

Student Organization Program of the Year
This award is designed to recognize and acknowledge the special efforts of a particular student organization that has developed, coordinated and implemented a highly outstanding, unique and innovative program at Florida Atlantic University. This program should have significantly contributed to the quality of life at the university. This student organization program cannot be directly funded by Student Government. This award will be awarded for each campus (Jupiter, Broward, and Boca Raton).

Student Organization Outstanding Fundraising Award
This award is designed to recognize outstanding efforts and accomplishments in fundraising. Organizations that receive this award will have shown sustained fundraising efforts through both dollar amounts and paper trails. All funds and donations received from sources other than COSO and Student Government, including money, goods or services, are considered for this award. Examples include membership dues, food donations, grants, bake sales, car washes, etc. All donations must be verifiable by attachment of grant contracts, bank statements, or other official documents. This award will be awarded for each campus. In addition, on the Boca campus each council will have one awardee per council (Academic, Multicultural and Spiritual, Sports, Special Interest, and Fraternity and Sorority).
