As you think about the next step of this process and what this opportunity means to you, there are a few things of which you should be aware:
Being a mascot is a huge commitment, as well as a great privilege. To this end, mascots will be required to give up other major leadership positions they may hold to focus on their academics and being the best mascot they can be (ex: executive office position in a major student organization or group or multiple involvements). If you currently hold a leadership position, please visit with the Mascot advisors to discuss this and make sure that you indicate on your completed time commitment agreement grid both current and future plans for involvement.
Secrecy is of the utmost importance. Half the fun of being a mascot is that no one knows who you are. START Practicing this now! If you have been telling everyone that you are applying to be a owl, you are going to have trouble with secrecy.
The mascot selection process will include an audition and a personal interview. Applicants must present their own 1-2 minute skit, with music of their choice (they must bring CD with them to audition). The audition process will include the applicant's skit as well as an improv scenario that will be given the day of tryouts. Applicant will actually dress out in costume which we will provide.
Completed application is due to the Student Involvement and Leadership, located in the Student Union, 218 no later than March 18 ,2013 at 5:00pm. It can be submitted online or via print out version.
