Graduate & Professional Student Organizations

Greetings Graduate and Professional Student Leaders,

I would like to first welcome you to the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA, formerly known as GSA) at Florida Atlantic University.  In our new capacity, the GPSA will oversee the funding for Graduate and Professional Student Organizations (GPSO) formerly under budgetary oversight from the Council of Student Organizations (COSO).  We would like to welcome you to our office located in the Student Union Room 234, my staff and I are eager to work with you.  Please be on the lookout for an invitation for your executive board to attend an Open House at the start of the Spring Semester.

Additionally, the Annual Budget Request for your student organization is now available on our website  http://www.fau.edu/sg/GSA/index.php   and is also attached to this e-mail. Please be sure to download it and complete the request for your organization.  The   2013-2014 Annual Budget Request   (modeled after the COSO 2013-2014 Annual Budget Packet) is an Excel document, which must be typed and submitted electronically with the accompanying GPSO Annual Budget Packet CHECKLIST .  Additional information about the   2013-2014 GPSO Registration and Budget Timeline   is also available on our website.  However, we have highlighted important dates and deadlines below. (Note all the information needed to submit your student organization's budget request is provided in this email or via our website by clicking the hyperlinks.)  For those needing further assistance with the Budget Process please respond to   gpsa@fau.edu   to request a Budget Workshop.  Also note that your organizations must still adhere to Student Involvement and Leadership (SIL) guidelines, requirements, and procedures.  Additionally, in the interim please refer to COSO policies ( for COSO policies click here ) as we will employ "best practices" and are developing a GPSO guidebook specific for graduate and professional student leaders.

We will also host workshops covering the GPSO Budget Process  (date TBD). We have also attached the “ Criteria for Allocating Club Funding ” to provide you and your advisors an idea of some criteria we use to evaluate budget packets. Finally, both the GPSA and COSO staff have offered to be of assistance to you during the Budget Process; you may set up an appointment with any of our staff by sending a request to   gpsa@fau.edu   or stopping by the Club House, located in the Student Union Rm. 227, to speak with the COSO staff.
