FAU School of Criminology and Criminal Justice

A Welcome from the Director

At Florida Atlantic University’s dedication ceremony in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson challenged the University's pioneers saying, "It is time now...for a new, adventurous, imaginative, courageous breakthrough for a new revolution in education in America." Those words continue to define what we in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice are doing in our classrooms, our hallways, and with our partners in the community.

With those words, FAU opened its doors as the first public university in southeast Florida and the first in America designed for upper division students only. Now, 50 years later, with more than 30,000 freshmen, transfers and graduate students, FAU is the most culturally diverse university in the State of Florida.

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is FAU’s second largest academic program. We offer a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice in a student-friendly environment.

Whether you are a pre-professional or already employed in the criminal justice system, you will learn from our highly diverse and talented group of faculty that crime control and prevention is a highly scientific process and only those with rigorous training and education can be the best of the best.

Today the school’s faculty is at the forefront of working collaboratively with federal, state and communities local and abroad focusing on issues of cybersecurity, crime analysis, problem-solving courts, organizational leadership, theory development and testing, community attitudes toward police, the role of volunteer policing, correctional health care, judicial decision-making, juvenile justice, restorative justice, evaluation research, environmental criminology, and sexual offenders and offender policies. Our graduates hold important positions in every branch of government and throughout the private sector.

Whether you are a current or prospective student or a professional searching for collaboration to address a real-world problem, we invite you to contact us to learn how we can help YOU.
