Florida Atlantic University

President's Welcome

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Florida Atlantic University, one of America’s most exciting centers of scholarship, research, creative activities and community engagement. Whatever your educational goals may be and wherever your career interests may lie, the chances are excellent that FAU has a program that will fit your needs and enrich your life.

Located on Florida’s beautiful southeast coast, FAU is a student-centered university that offers a wealth of opportunities to people of all ages. Students of traditional college age find all the richness of the traditional university experience at FAU, including modern on-campus housing, dining and recreational facilities, fraternities and sororities, honor societies, special interest clubs and a year-round roster of social activities and athletic events. Older students who are working and perhaps raising families find a university that accommodates their needs by offering a variety of evening, weekend and online courses. And on football weekends, everyone can head to FAU Stadium to cheer for the Owls, a recently launched NCAA Division I team that has already won two bowl games!

Most important is the fact that FAU students receive an excellent education. Our 30,000-member student body is served by a faculty of top scholars and researchers who are dedicated to student success. In exit polls, graduating students invariably say that their relationship with faculty members was the most meaningful part of their FAU experience.

The University’s 10 distinguished colleges offer more than 180 degree programs in fields that span the arts and humanities, the sciences, medicine, nursing, accounting, business, education, public administration, social work, architecture, engineering, computer science and much more. Academically accomplished students may take advantage of honors programs that are offered on the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses.

Classified as a “High Research Activity University” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, FAU currently has a $48 million research portfolio. Both undergraduate and graduate students are given the opportunity to participate in research activities under faculty guidance. While research takes place across a broad spectrum of disciplines, special focus is placed on initiatives that align with FAU’s three signature themes: Marine and Coastal Issues, Biotechnology and Contemporary Societal Challenges.

As the most racially, ethnically and culturally diverse institution in Florida’s State University System, FAU is truly a microcosm of this great nation of ours. U.S. News & World Report has ranked FAU 27th among all American universities for campus diversity. Our students come to us from all 50 states and some 180 countries, and many U.S.-born students take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad. The interconnected, multi-national world in which the next generation will live and work has already arrived at FAU!

If you are new to the University, welcome. If you are a current student, we’re very glad you’re here. And if you’re looking for a great university where you can achieve your educational dreams, you are looking in the right place! Your path to success begins at Florida Atlantic University.
