A Message from President Pritchett
It is a singular privilege for Florida Atlantic University to host His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet on his first visit to Palm Beach County. Recognized worldwide as a messenger of peace, this self-described "simple Buddhist monk" will speak on the Boca Raton campus on Wednesday, Feb. 24, before an audience of FAU students, faculty and staff as well as members of the general public. His subject will be "Compassion as a Pillar of World Peace."
The Dalai Lama's appearance will take place at the conclusion of Expressions of Peace Week, when a series of events sponsored by the Peace Studies Program in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts at Letters will be presented. Our goal is to reinforce the Dalai Lama's core message: that peace is possible, if we, the people of the world, really want it.
For the full schedule of Expressions of Peace Week events and information on obtaining a ticket to attend the Dalai Lama's lecture, please click on the "Peace Week" and "Tickets" links, respectively, on this website. Beginning Monday, Jan. 18, FAU students, faculty and staff will be able to enter a lottery to win free tickets to the lecture. On Tuesday, Jan. 19, tickets will go on sale to the general public. Proceeds from these ticket sales will meet the cost of the event and enable us to provide free admission to members of the FAU community. The Dalai Lama accepts no compensation for his public appearances, always stipulating that any profits must go to charitable or educational causes.
This is an event that will truly go down in the history of Florida Atlantic University and Palm Beach County. I hope you will be able to be part of it.
Sincerely,
John F. Pritchett
President (Interim).
