Favorite Part of OPA: I enjoy interacting with other parents and building a network of resources for my daughter while at Florida Atlantic University.
Member of OPA: 2 years
Advice for Parents: I would encourage parents to take the time to learn about how the OPA can assist them in ensuring their student has the best possible experience at FAU. Attending OPA events on campus such as Parent and Family Weekend is a great way to get started!

Favorite Part of OPA: LOVE the calendar with all the important dates, events, things to think about... It's a terrific resource for parents to keep a pulse on their student's college experience
Member of OPA: Very, very new -- my first semester!
Advice for Parents: Keep communications open and the dialogue flowing with your student. Asking her/him what's going on. Encourage her/him to participate in clubs, events and activities around the campus. If s/he is struggling with college life (classes, changes and fitting in, making friends), encourage her/him to get tutoring, speak with the psychologist on campus, or find out what going on in student activities. Empower her/him to meet new people and participate in all FAU has to offer!

Favorite Part of OPA: Making new friends on the OPA and helping coordinate campus/family events. My favorite is Fall Family Weekend.
Member of OPA: 2 years
Advice for Parents: The University has a number of resources available to help your child succeed as a college student. New students are often overwhelmed with adjusting to their new found independence and increase in responsibilities. They do not always know or take advantage of the campus support systems and activities offered. Learn what is available to make suggestions to your child when needed.

Favorite Part of OPA: Meeting and interacting with new parents.
Member of OPA: 4 Years
Advice for Parents: Stay connected with the university by being active with the OPA, it will help you understand what your student is experiencing and alleviate any fears or concerns you might have. Having other parents who are or have gone through similar experiences to talk to is priceless. Make use of the Mentor program, we have all been through problems with our students and are here to lend support.
