Parent/Guest Orientation was created for parents/family of incoming FAU students. We offer Parent/Guest Orientation at both Freshman Orientation and Transfer Orientation. While orientation for students is mandatory, Parent/Guest Orientation is optional, we strongly encourage you to attend parent/guest orientation. If you wish to attend with your student, please have him/her add you as a guest when they are signing up for orientation. Parent/Guest Orientation for freshman parents/guests is $60 and for transfer parents/guests it is $20.
Topics in both transfer and freshman guest orientations include academics, on/off campus living, financial aid, student conduct and safety, career, health and wellness, the role of a college parent, transitions, and resources.
Freshman Parent/Guest Orientation : Freshman Orientation is two days long. While some sessions of the Parent/Guest Orientation are shared with your student, others are not. In the Parent specific questions you will learn more about your role as an FAU Parent/Supporter specifically about how we hope to partner with you for the success of your student. We also include sessions about the resources available both in and out of classroom. Lunch and dinner on Day One is included with the price of Parent/Guest Orientation. We also provide some useful guides to take home.
Transfer Parent/Guest Orientation : Transfer Orientation will take approximately six-eight hours. You and your student will spend time learning about various resources on campus as well as FAU's policies and procedures then you will go to a session designed specially for parents/guests. In this session, we will discuss ways you can support your transfer student while they are here at FAU. We will also provide you with many resources to help you assist in the success of your student. We will provide some useful guides and information to take home.
