Opening Ceremony
Monday, March 31, noon to 1 p.m.
Traditions Plaza

Diversity SAVVY
Monday, March 31, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Palmetto Palm Room

Diversity SAVVY looks to bring an interactive savvy awareness to the diversity of needs in our community through a stationary “walk” in someone else’s shoes. Students will receive one hour of service by participating in sprucing up gently used shoes to be provided by In Jacob’s Shoes, a non-profit agency who provides shoes to children in need across South Florida. Reel Diversity
Monday, March 31, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Grand Palm Room

In Brian C. Johnson’s provocative talk “Reel Diversity,” he shares clips of well-known films and discusses the messages they consciously or unconsciously give. Brian will allow each of us to see diversity from a new perspective! In addition to talk about race, the value of diversity in sexual orientation, socio-economics, religion, and disability will be discussed. Asian American History Month Scavenger Hunt

Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month Kick Off

The FAU Davie Campus will celebrate diversity with its annual “Diversity Block Party.” In its fourth year, Student Government leaders will share and explore the cultures of their native homeland. These include customs, traditions and activities from the Caribbean Islands of Haiti and Jamaica; from the African continent: Nigeria; the Middle East: India, Lebanon, Palestine; the Far East: China; and from the South American continent: Colombia. There will be an array of native foods and music. Live performances begin at 6:30 with “Wai’s Chinese Dancing Dragon.” FAU students, families, faculty and staff are invited. Gender Bender Dance

Queens, Kings, Princesses, and Princes ~ dress in your finest and come out to the Gender Bender dance! Queen of Hearts, the Lion King, Prince Joffrey, Princess Buttercup, or whoever! Others on the royal court are invited as well. Remember, guests typically dress in a different gender than they identify with!
