Telephone System

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers a Cisco VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phones for faculty and staff requiring telephone service, with a wide range of basic and advanced features and options that come either standard or available upon request. This service is for offices and for to environments with complex telephone needs, or with a high volume of telephone traffic such as reception areas.

OIT's Communication Infrastructure department is responsible for maintaining the university telephone system, which include services such as phones, phone mail, call routing, smartphones, cell phones, Comcast cable TV installations, and cabling.

Directory Assistance and Dial Plan

The main University number is 561-297-3000. University telephone operators are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to help direct calls.

Directory Assistance

To ask for a person, department, college, or campus, dial “0” from any FAU phone. From an external phone, dial 561-297-3000.

Campus Operator

If you need to speak to the FAU Operator, dial “0” from any FAU phone and ask for “Operator.”

Placing Calls at FAU
  • To call someone on the Boca Raton campus, dial 7 plus the 4-digit extension.
  • To call someone on any of the partner campuses, dial 6 plus the 4-digit extension.
  • To make either a local or a long-distance phone call, dial “99” plus the number that you wish to be connected with.

To dial phone extensions from off campus, add area codes and exchanges to the last four digits of the extension shown:

Wired and Wireless Usage Verification Form

In order to comply with Audit requirements, a detailed report of Personnel Usage Charges for wired/wireless devices are sent via e-mail each month to every employee. A reimbursement must be made for all personal calls made from your wired telephone(s) and for personal usage that exceeds your wireless plan(s).

  • Submit reimbursement for any personal calls on wired and wireless devices through FAU Marketplace (epay); the link is Repayments - Phone Bill Payment
  • Sign and retain a copy of the Verification form & reimbursement receipt for Audit purposes.

Name and Caller ID Changes on Phones

For all name and/or Caller ID change requests, the user has to submit a ticket through the University's Help Desk.

Xpressions Voicemail

Xpressions voicemail is a billable feature and must be requested by your department before it will be active on your telephone. Please be aware that if you have incorrectly entered your voicemail password three (3) times, the system will lock you out as a security precaution for 15 minutes. If you remember your password, you can try again after 15 minutes. If you do not remember password, please submit a ticket through the Help Desk for assistance.
