Printing in the Fort Lauderdale Open Computer Lab

The Fort Lauderdale Open Computer Lab is equipped with a pay-for-print system. This printing solution allows students to print from anywhere from almost any device. Students can add funds to their Owl Card Printing Account and use these funds on both copiers and printers that are part of the solution.

The printing system protects confidential documents and slashes the volume of unclaimed printouts. Users queue print jobs to a virtual queue, and then release them for printing on any printer. The "release stations" requires user authentication, by swiping card or entering your FAU NET ID to release and collect sensitive documents.

With this new printing system students can now print wirelessly from laptops, netbooks, iOS, and Android devices with no driver installation or server authentication. Your print jobs will be held until they are released by the student directly from the most convenient printer. For more information, click here.

Type of Printing Cost
8.5" x 11" - Black & White $0.08
8.5" x 11" - Color Laser $0.30
11" x 17" - Black & White $0.10
Plotter Printing

The price is determined by the following formula: Cost per Poster = (cost of supplies per sq. ft.) x (square footage of poster) + (operating cost per poster). The operating cost per poster is $7.71. The cost of supplies per sq. ft. depends on the type of paper used:

  • HP Universal Instant Dry Semi-gloss photo paper: $1.05
  • HP Super Heavy Weight + Matte: $1.03
