Press Release:

FAU to Host Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein

BOCA RATON, Fla. (November 5, 2013) – Florida Atlantic University’s Alan B. Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Department of History presents “Inside the White House From Nixon to Obama: A Conversation with Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein,” moderated by Timothy Naftali, former director of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and current senior research fellow at the New America Foundation. The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. in the Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Tickets can be purchased at or by calling 800-564-9539.

Pulitzer-Prize winning journalists Woodward and Bernstein set a new standard for Washington journalism and in-depth, behind-the-scenes reporting on the American presidency. Starting with the publication of their first shared Watergate byline, “All the President’s Men,” in June 1972, and continuing with reporting and commentary, Woodward and Bernstein have revealed the inner-workings of government, politics and the hidden stories of Washington and its leaders. Both are frequent contributors on MSNBC, CNN, and all other major networks. Few journalists in American history have had the impact on their era and their craft as these men have.

Bernstein attended the University of Maryland and is currently employed as a writer for Vanity Fair magazine. After he quit working for The Washington Post in 1976, he was a senior correspondent and Washington Bureau Chief for ABC News, taught classes at New York University, and contributed articles to Time Magazine. With Woodward, he wrote “All the President's Men,” “The Final Days,” and contributed to the “Secret Man” about their Deep Throat source. He is also the co-author of “His Holiness: John Paul II & the History of Our Time,” and “A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

Woodward is an alumnus of Yale University, and is still working for The Washington Post, now as an associate editor, and to this day has a listed phone number that is available to any potential news source. He has been described by CBS News reporter Bob Schieffer as “the best reporter of our time...may be the best reporter of all time.” His former boss, editor Ben Bradlee, described him as “surely the best of his generation at investigative reporting, the best I've ever seen.” Woodward has authored 16 nonfiction books, and all have been national bestsellers. Woodward has written more No. 1 national non-fiction bestsellers than any other contemporary author. Although many of these books were met with criticism and even denials after investigations were completed, his work has always proven to be accurate. He was a major contributor to a second Pulitzer Prize for The Washington Post with his coverage of the 9-11 attacks.
