FAU Foundation Board Appoints Three New Members
BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 14, 2014) – The Florida Atlantic University Foundation Board recently welcomed three new Limited Purpose Board (LPB) members: Michael J. Crowley ’79, ’80; Steve Oyer and Jay Shein. All three will serve on the investment committee. The FAU Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of a dedicated group of alumni and friends of the University who volunteer their time and expertise to spearhead fundraising efforts and manage the Foundation’s assets.
“I am pleased to welcome these outstanding community members to the FAU Foundation Board,” said Joanne Davis, interim vice president for community engagement and executive director of the FAU Foundation. “Each of these men brings unique experiences and expertise to the board, which will greatly benefit the FAU community.”
Crowley is a senior vice president and senior portfolio manager at U.S. Trust. He brings more than 28 years of investment experience to the board. His background includes work with First National Bank in Palm Beach, Wells Fargo and Merrill Lynch. Crowley earned an M.B.A. in finance from FAU in 1980 and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also past president of the Financial Analyst Society of South Florida.
Oyer is a senior member of the Private Funds Group of Brookfield Asset Management, a $180 billion global alternative asset manager. His vast leadership experience includes serving as interim CEO of Saflink Corporation and managing director of Global Business Development for Standard and Poor’s, where he led initiatives that fostered expansion and growth within the organization. Oyer was a founding member of and currently serves on the steering committees for the family office counsels at New York University, Yale University, Princeton University and Johns Hopkins University.
Shein is chief executive officer and chief investment officer and strategist for Compass Financial Group, Inc. in Deerfield Beach. He is the author of Investment Planning Answer Book and past co-editor-in-chief and current editorial advisory board member of The Journal of Investment Consulting. Shein is the 2013-14 chairman of the certification commission for the Investment Management Consultants Association®and chairperson of the John Knox Village Foundation finance committee. He is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), a Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) and a Certified Investment Strategist (CIS).
