FAU Receives $5,000 from State Farm for Financial Literacy Initiatives
Youth Learn Financial Literacy and Leadership Skills
BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 12, 2013) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business has received $5,000 from State Farm to provide financial literacy programming for local area educators.
“FAU appreciates State Farm’s generous contribution. One of the leading issues in secondary education today is promoting financial literacy,” said William Bosshardt, Ph.D., associate professor and director of FAU’s Center for Economic Education in the College of Business. “Training secondary school educators how to introduce this topic in their classes is the first step in promoting financial literacy in middle and high schools.”
The FAU Center for Economic Education will offer programs for K-12 teachers in local area schools to provide them with the knowledge and tools they need to be able to effectively teach personal finance concepts to students in an innovative way. The Center has recently offered similar programs that covered income, investing and insuring for students in secondary schools.
“We are proud to support FAU’s financial literacy initiatives in our local schools,” said Jose Soto, public affairs specialist at State Farm. “We remain committed to building stronger and better educated communities.”
