‘Shades of Green: Music, Memories & Dance’ Event to Benefit FAU’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center

BOCA RATON, FL (February 6, 2012) – The Caring Hearts Auxiliary of Florida Atlantic University’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center will host “Shades of Green:  Music, Memories & Dance” on Saturday, March 10, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing atrium lobby, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The event benefits scholarships to Day Center participants and caregiver support programs.

“The Memory and Wellness Center is truly a gift to our community, providing a special place for families to bring loved ones who are experiencing memory loss,” said Holli Rockwell, Caring Hearts Auxiliary board member, who is co-chairing Shades of Green with fellow board members Vanessa Boltz and Terry Fedele.  “The supportive programs for family members are so important, as they face many challenges in caring for a loved one with memory loss.”

The grand sponsor is Marleen Forkas, and Marlaine Smith, Ph.D., dean of the College of Nursing, is the honorary chair. Committee members include Debbie Gonzalez, Morgan Green, Debbie Lindstrom, Kathleen Valentine, Ph.D., and Lynda Williams.

“The Memory and Wellness Center offers a loving atmosphere where participants can experience life-enriching programs while improving their cognitive abilities,” said Valentine, director of the center.  “The support of the Caring Hearts Auxiliary, guests and sponsors will go directly to scholarships and caregiver support programs.  Their dedication is making a difference in the lives of those experiencing memory loss and nurturing and supporting their families.”

Guests will enjoy cocktails and dinner by the bite while being entertained with music and dancing with Dr. J and his band, as well as a cabaret show featuring Jennifer Sheehan and her pianist.

The Memory and Wellness Center, located on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, is part of FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and averages 16,000 visits each year.  One-third of the visitors are caregivers who have found respite. The Center offers a wide range of services and programs to individuals with mild to moderate memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Visits start with a comprehensive memory evaluation that often helps diagnose a memory disorder and begin a treatment plan with a patient’s physician.

The Day Center provides an active and secure place for families to bring spouses or parents who are experiencing memory loss, and the caregiver support programs have a positive impact on life at home.

Individual tickets are $200, and sponsorships are available.  For more information or to purchase tickets, call 561-297-4066, email lwill42@fau.edu or visit https://fauf.fau.edu/shadesofgreen.
