FAU to Host Inauguration of Dr. Mary Jane Saunders

Weeklong Series of Events to Lead Up to Installation Ceremony

            BOCA RATON, FL (September 28, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University will host a series of events as part of the inauguration of Dr. Mary Jane Saunders, FAU’s sixth president.  The inaugural activities, themed Making Waves: Celebrating and Cultivating Discovery, Diversity and Distinction, begin Sunday, October 24 and will conclude on Saturday, October 30. The weeklong celebration will intertwine with the university’s Homecoming festivities.  

The installation ceremony for Saunders will take place on Friday, October 29 at 10 a.m. in the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium, FAU’s Student Union, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

“Waves of Blue” Inaugural Concert


The event will take place on Sunday, October 24, from 3 - 5 p.m. in the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.  Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-564-9539 or visiting www.fauevents.com. Concert to benefit the “President’s Scholarship Challenge.”


Spirit Day at Davie


The event will take place on Monday, October 25, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Student Union Patio and SD 105, FAU’s Davie campus, 3200 College Avenue.



Homecoming Kick-off Barbeque


The event will take place on Monday, October 25, from 6 - 8 p.m. on the Housing Lawn, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.


FAU Research Priority Symposium – “Climate Change”


The event will take place on Tuesday, October 26, from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the Live Oak Pavilion, FAU’s Student Union, 777 Glades Road, FAU’s Boca Raton campus.


Spirit Day at Fort Lauderdale


The event will take place on Tuesday, October 26, from 4 p.m. at the College Plaza, FAU’s Fort Lauderdale campus, 111 East Las Olas Blvd.



FAU Undergraduate Research Symposium – “Highlights of Undergraduate Research”


The event will take place on Wednesday, October 27, from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the AD Classrooms, FAU’s MacArthur campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter.



Spirit Day at Jupiter


The event will take place on Wednesday, October 27, from 2 - 3p.m. at the SR Burrow, FAU’s MacArthur campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter.



CarnivOWL


The event will take place on Wednesday, October 27, from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the MP Parking Lot, FAU’s Treasure Coast campus, 500 NW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie.


HBOI Research Symposium – “Ocean Science and Why It Matters”


The event will take place on Thursday, October 28, from 8:30 a.m. - noon at the Johnson Education Center Auditorium, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, 5600 US 1 North, Fort Pierce.



Symposium on Higher Education – “The Changing Landscape of Higher Education”


The event will take place on Thursday, October 28, from 1:30 - 4 p.m. at the Live Oak Pavilion, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.



Installation Ceremony


The event will take place on Friday, October 29, from 10 a.m. - noon at the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium in FAU’s Student Union, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.


Inaugural Open House


The event will take place on Friday, October 29, from 2:30 - 4 p.m. at the Eleanor R. Baldwin House, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 555 NW 20th Street.



Homecoming Parade


The event will take place on Friday, October 29, beginning at 5 p.m. at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road

Fall Family Fest


The event will take place on Friday, October 29, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Housing Lawn, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.



Bonfire


The event will take place on Friday, October 29, beginning at 8 p.m. at the housing lawn, FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 30, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium, 5201 NW 12th Ave., Fort Lauderdale.



FAU Football – Homecoming 2010: FAU vs. FIU


The event will take place on Saturday, October 30, beginning at 4 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium, 5201 NW 12th Ave., Fort Lauderdale.
