FAU Names New Police Chief
BOCA RATON, FL (August 15, 2007) - Florida Atlantic University named Charles E. Lowe as its new director of safety & security and chief of police. Lowe previously served for seven years as the director of public safety and chief of police at Longwood University, located in Farmville, VA. Prior to this, he served as a police major and parking services bureau manager for the Medical College of Georgia.
“I am very excited about the tremendous opportunity Florida Atlantic University has extended to me,” said Lowe. “The departments have a great foundation of talented professionals, and I look forward to working with them in serving the FAU community.”
Responsible for overseeing the University Police Department and Traffic & Parking Department, Lowe will provide leadership in the planning and execution of programs for the proper protection of the university community, its students, faculty, staff and visitors on all of FAU’s campuses. He will direct all law enforcement, intelligence gathering activities, as well as traffic & parking activities for the university.
“There was a very good pool of candidates for this position. It was Charles’ proven leadership that really set him apart from the rest,” said Dennis Crudele, associate vice president for financial affairs. “Charles brings with him a wealth of knowledge due to his prior university law enforcement background.”
Lowe will begin as FAU’s new director of safety & security and chief of police on Tuesday, September 4. He completed his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Troy State University.
