FAU Names Helena Szczesny Director of Development for the Barry Kaye College of Business
BOCA RATON, FL (June 28, 2007) -- Florida Atlantic University recently named Helena C. Szczesny director of development for the Barry Kaye College of Business. As a member of the division of University Advancement, Szczesny will be responsible for all fund-raising activities in the College. With experience as a fundraiser, along with her demonstrated stewardship and analytical skills, Szczesny is ideally suited for the position.
A familiar face on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, Szczesny has for the past two years coordinated academic support services in the Career Resource Center in the Barry Kaye College of Business. In this position, she increased, by 400 percent, professional opportunities for FAU business students and alumni. Cultivating relationships with key corporate decision makers in the business sector, Szczesny secured more than 500 job placements and internships for FAU students.
Prior to coming to FAU, Szczesny was the executive director of Chowan Regional Health Foundation in North Carolina. She was in charge of all fundraising, public relations and administrative activities and served Chowan Regional’s Foundation by implementing a strategic plan which engaged members of the local Economic Development Council, Chambers of Commerce and Business Development Board. Szczesny directed the Foundation’s annual fund and capital campaigns, and solicited gifts from a diverse constituency. In addition, she managed the Foundation’s assets, directed financial affairs, and oversaw the annual audit and budget of the Foundation.
In 2000, Szczesny directed Internet product development for Database Technologies, Inc/ChoicePoint in Boca Raton. Her efforts retained existing clients and secured new business. Prior to that position, Szczesny was vice president of client services for USA Services Group, Inc., a privately held corporation in Fort Lauderdale that delivered financial and insurance products and services to state and national associations. Szczesny has also been a financial advisor with Prudential Preferred Advisors and directed data services for the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
“We are excited that Helena, already a fixture at the College of Business, has joined our team of development officers,” said Deborah “Dee” Robinson, associate vice president, University Advancement. “As she represents FAU in the community, Helena will draw upon her excellent background in business marketing and her commitment to higher education.”
Szczesny earned her bachelor’s degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the National Committee on Planned Giving, the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and the American Marketing Association. She was an executive board member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities International.
"I am honored to have been selected for this wonderful opportunity," said Szczesny. "The Barry Kaye College of Business is paving the way in so many areas and has achieved many significant accomplishments. I am determined to bring the college new support and funding sources. In my previous role at the College of Business, my work was focused on students and employers within our service area. Now I have the opportunity to build more partnering opportunities with donors, friends and corporations . "
