FAU Awarded ‘Editor's Choice’ at 2011 Progressive Manufacturers of the Year Ceremony

BOCA RATON, FL (May 31, 2011) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science recently was honored with the Editor’s Choice award at the Progressive Manufacturers of the Year (PM100) Awards. The award was given for the College’s training and educational achievements for its new 97,000-square-foot living-learning laboratory, the first newly constructed academic building in southeast Florida to be designed and built to U.S. Green Building Council LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum level standards – the highest level in the Green Building Rating System™.

“The new College of Engineering and Computer Science building not only has an aesthetic appeal but also functions as a living-learning laboratory for students to better educate themselves on sustainable engineering practices through the use of IT technologies,” said Karl K. Stevens, Ph.D., dean of the College.

Some of the training and educational achievements within the building include state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, as well as a virtualized cloud computing infrastructure, which enables the use of information technology resources on demand.

The PM100 Awards honor companies that have transformed themselves through the use of information technology. The program recognizes innovative projects that deliver competitive advantage and demonstrate a company's mastery of at least one of eight core disciplines critical for success. Other PM100 award recipients this year include IBM, Kodak, Coca-Cola, Boeing and Chevron.
