Press Release:

FAU Nursing Students Participate in Clinical Simulations at Port St. Lucie Campus

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (May 4, 2011) - Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing graduate students studying to be family nurse practitioners (FNP) recently participated in clinical simulations with the METIman™ patient simulator on the Treasure Coast campus in Port St. Lucie.
“Simulation has been used a great deal in undergraduate nursing education, but it is just beginning to be recognized as an important component of graduate education as well,” said Josie Weiss, Ph.D., FAU associate professor and FNP program coordinator.  “FAU graduate students are some of the first in the nation to experience simulation in graduate education.”
METIman™, an adult patient simulator, arrived in fall 2010, joining a childbearing woman simulator, as well as a six-year-old child simulator.  This technology is used to provide students opportunities to practice their assessment skills and challenge their critical thinking abilities. The simulators are used several times each semester to provide mock patient scenarios in a caring, low risk, nonthreatening, yet realistic environment.
