FAU to Host 2011 Business Plan Competition
Registration Deadline is January 28 for April Event
BOCA RATON, FL (January 4, 2011) - Florida Atlantic University’s Adams Center for Entrepreneurship and the College of Business will host the 2011 FAU Business Plan Competition, in which FAU students, alumni and, for the first time, members of the business community will be invited to compete for a share of more than $100,000 in cash and prizes. Individual registrations are due by Friday, January 28, and the final business plans must be submitted by Sunday, March 27 at 5 p.m.
The 2011 FAU Business Plan Competition provides an opportunity for participants to compete and test their business ideas. Teams may submit an innovative business plan in one of two categories, the Community Track, which is designated for alumni and members of the business community at large, and the Student Track, which is open to current FAU students only.
The final round event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15, will host eight teams in each of the two tracks of the competition. FAU will also feature Mr. Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, on April 15 to provide the keynote address. To compete, participants first must complete the online Intent to Compete form and then build their team.
A screening committee made up of FAU faculty and South Florida business leaders will narrow business plan submissions to a total of 16 business plans to compete in the final-round event. Teams participating in the competition will have the opportunity to meet and network with experienced venture capital principals, early-stage angel investors, successful entrepreneurs and senior business leaders who will serve as judges for the competition.
Competition highlights include:
- Real-world opportunities to learn what is required to successfully launch a new business venture
- A chance to receive mentoring and feedback from investors and experienced entrepreneurs
- Prizes valued at more than $100,000
Community partnerships enable the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship to continue its support for entrepreneurial programs and early stage companies. The Platinum Presenting Sponsor for the 2011 competition is SBA Communications Corporation.
