Ribbon cutting for the T2 FAU/Scripps Florida Research Facility took place in March 2007. The second laboratory building is nearing capacity with the addition of new faculty members Dr. Tina Izard and Dr. Philippe Bois in the Department of Cancer Biology. Chemist Dr. Roy Periana joined the Scripps faculty to explore new frontiers in alternative energy sources.
Construction of the permanent Scripps Florida campus is proceeding as scheduled with a projected turn-over date in mid-December 2008. In anticipation of the new 350,000-square-foot facility, Scripps is beginning to look into the recruitment of senior investigators in new scientific fields, in addition to join to those currently represented. There are approximately 260 staff members to date at the FAU/Scripps facilities.
Throughout the year, faculty and staff participated in a variety of FAU- sponsored programs. In addition to hosting a career panel and laboratory tour for participating high school students, Scripps researchers from the chemistry, infectology, and high throughput screening laboratories provided lessons for the FAU Honors Summer Institute. In January 2007, Dr. Harry Orf was a guest lecturer at the Hibel Museum, and under the title of “Frontiers in Science” faculty members from the Scripps department of cancer biology presented a series of lectures for the Lifelong Learning Society.
Since January 2006, eight FAU undergraduates have been given internships in Scripps research laboratories. The students have received FAU academic credit for their work.

| "Literati laeti sunt in litore" proclaimed that "Scholars are happy on the beach." Faculty joined our campus v.p. on the scholars golf cart to lead the parade. The Jupiter campus came alive with school spirit during Homecoming Week. Daily spirit garb, office and door decorations, a feast in the dining hall and the first-ever golf cart parade helped make our celebration a great success. The campus also entered a float in the Boca campus parade depicting Galileo and the Age of Discovery which confirmed that "FAU Jupiter is out of this world."

Owlsley hands out Publix "green bags" at Campus Sustainability Day assisted by Enviro Club member Lauren Bimmler. Students, faculty and staff participated in signing a pledge to "Live Green." Other activities included table displays, a speakers forum and distribution of information on how everyone in the campus community can do their part to create a sustainable environment.
