The 2007 Teacher of the Year is Dr. Kathryn Keller (right), an associate professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Dr. Keller will receive the award at the 2007 Honors Convocation, to be held on Tuesday, April 17 at 5 p.m. in the University Theatre on the Boca Raton Campus. The Honors Convocation has been held annually since 1969, making it one of FAU’s longest-running traditions.
The event, hosted by President Brogan, also recognizes the University's researchers of the year, teaching and advising awardees and the Alumni Degree of Difference award recipientas well as a number of students including the University scholars. Board of Trustees Chair Norman Tripp will hand out the inaugural Nancy Blosser Service Award. Dr. Keller will deliver the keynote address at the convocation.
"I believe teaching involves connecting with students through the use of story, humor and knowledge to create an environment in which the student is engaged, entertained and challenged," said Dr. Keller. "Students and teachers alike must be open to questions and the exploration of new and greater challenges and possibilities, if they are to evolve and grow. If I can empower and excite students to rise to their highest potential through the communication of knowledge and an appreciation of their capabilities, then I feel that I have been successful as an educator and mentor."

Dr. Keller began her career in nursing as a registered nurse in the emergency department at Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) in Miami. She moved on to the Surgical ICU at Grady Memorial in Atlanta and then back to JMH to the Coronary Intensive Care Unit, where she found her niche. There she deepened her interest in electrocardiographic nursing concepts. Eventually she went back to school and obtained her master's degree in nursing as a clinical specialist in critical care and her Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Miami. Dr. Keller's primary research interest is in arrhythmia nursing knowledge. Find out more about Dr. Keller.
