Without question, Dr. Eric H. Shaw is one of the FAU staff’s most ardent supporters. An undergraduate and graduate student at FAU during the 1970s, Shaw returned to his alma mater in 1982 after earning a Ph.D. in marketing from Temple University and garnering valuable teaching experience at other public and private institutions. Shaw came “home” to reunite with those scholars who had influenced and mentored him as a student. Eager to join the growing university that had provided him with so much of his education, he was not surprised to find, from an academician’s standpoint, a stimulating collegial community of talented professors and motivated students.
Currently Shaw chairs the marketing department in the College of Business while also teaching advanced undergraduate and MBA courses in marketing strategy and planning, as well as doctoral seminars in marketing theory and thought. Because, as a member of the faculty and as an alumnus, he believes so strongly in FAU and its future, Shaw has consistently responded to the University’s needs. He has generously contributed to scholarships within the College of Business, given to the library, supported athletic and alumni events and helped create the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship Fund.
“We are growing as a great university,” says Shaw. “Given the vagaries of state funding, we need outside contributions to become an even greater university. I want to help bring our world-class faculty, researchers, students and programs to the forefront of higher education. I have received so much from FAU, it is only fair that I give back.”
At FAU, with its international and diverse community, Shaw sees first-hand the sharing of different values, ideas and views. He is proud, as an alumnus and faculty member, to be affiliated with such an innovative institution, and in his words, “can’t imagine being in another place.”
