THE NEW
DAVID AND GOLIATH:
ISRAEL’S BIBLICAL IMAGE USURPED BY THE PALESTINIANS
Arthur
Green
DESCRIPTION: If
you control the image, you control the historical narrative. Imagery and
the narrative are critical to understanding what helps shape American-Middle
East foreign policy. Using mainstream American print publications, Green
has designed an innovative web presentation that visually frames the iconic
Middle East imagery from the early decades of the 20th- Century through 2012.
The audience will be encouraged to contribute to the two-way dialogue and
participants will be challenged to think differently about a complex problem.
Western civilization has been oriented to psychologically support the “underdog.” Because
of the imagery that Life, Time and Newsweek have used to frame the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict, grassroots American public opinion relates to the complexity of
the troubled Holy Land.
